LandscapeDNDC

LandscapeDNDC is a simulation framework for terrestrial‑ecosystem models on site‑ and regional scales [33].
The framework consists of simulation kernels (input streams or scientific models) that run on top of the technical backbone Crabmeat.
Crabmeat provides the spatial domain, temporal integration, and the handling of input and output streams (initial conditions, boundary conditions, etc.).

Inputs

The framework accepts the following input categories:

  • Model selection
  • Climate data
  • Atmospheric chemistry
  • Event definitions

Detailed information is available on the Inputs page.

Core scientific models

The kernel MoBiLE contains the core scientific models that constitute the essence of LandscapeDNDC. The name refers to the former MoBiLE model [29]., which already incorporated many of the LandscapeDNDC components.

A complete list of available models with descriptions can be found on the MoBiLE models page.

Models with lateral connections

The original MoBiLE approach handled each grid cell in an independent run, which prevented regional simulations with inter‑cell communication.
By building on Crabmeat, LandscapeDNDC now supports simultaneous integration of many grid cells, enabling lateral connections (e.g., nutrient or water exchange) between adjacent cells.

Kernels that exploit this feature include:

  • FarmSystem: redistributes resources such as harvested residues between neighbouring fields.
  • EcHy 3D: simulates lateral groundwater flow and dissolved‑nutrient transport across grid cells.

Further models

Additional specialized models are documented on the Oryza2000 page.
